The Meadows School has adopted an integrated technology curriculum throughout all four divisions in six key categories: Creativity and Innovation; Communication and Collaboration; Research and Information Fluency; Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making; Digital Citizenship; and Technology Operations Concepts. Educational technology allows students to explore beyond the classroom as they experiment with the latest programs, devices, and online resources.
All students are equipped with the technology tools needed to succeed. In addition to providing SMART Boards in every classroom, the School also maintains a 1:1 iPad Program for students in grades PreK – 1, a 1:1 Laptop Program for students in grades 2 – 5, and a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program for students in grades 6 – 12.
The technology applications and programs used during class instruction are designed to prepare students for the types of technology they will encounter at higher levels. The School uses Google Apps for Education to provide students with the same collaboration tools used at the collegiate level, and all students in grades 6 – 12 are provided with a school email address to allow easy communication with classmates and instructors.
The Meadows School is a proud member of the Global Online Academy (GOA), a consortium of leading independent schools from around the world. The schools that are members of the Global Online Academy are well known nationwide and globally for the strengths of their curricula and the excellence of their teaching. Collaborating in this online education enterprise allows The Meadows School to multiply and enhance these strengths and to connect to a common hub without losing the School's identity.
ABOUT GLOBAL ONLINE ACADEMY
The mission of Global Online Academy is to replicate in online classrooms the intellectually rigorous programs and excellent teaching that are hallmarks of its member schools; to foster new and effective ways, through best practices in online education, for students to learn; and to promote students' global online awareness and understanding by creating truly diverse, worldwide, online schoolroom communities.
There are currently 35+ high-performing independent schools in the consortium, representing three continents, four countries, 21 states, and the District of Columbia. All GOA courses are taught by teachers who are currently teaching at a GOA member school.
ABOUT GLOBAL ONLINE CURRICULUM
Junior and senior students in Upper School are eligible to take a GOA course for School credit. Course workload and intensity is equivalent to other courses taken on the School's campus.
Global Online Academy curriculum is created in collaboration with its member teachers, who are proven, exemplary leaders in their school communities. GOA courses allow schools to expand what they offer and to help students test their passions in ways typically unavailable in a brick and mortar school. Classes are limited to 18 students, and teachers hold regularly-scheduled, virtual office hours to ensure 1:1 instruction with all students. The online environment means students are able to interact constantly with the subject matter, course materials, and one another.
Students learn to navigate modern communication styles and tools - including the speed at which ideas are transmitted and how to organize large amounts of information - which help prepare them for college and working life. Students benefit from hearing and developing global perspectives on the topics discussed with students from around the world and learn to collaborate with their peers remotely - a skill they will undoubtedly use in their professional lives.
"Technology at The Meadows allows our students to explore things beyond our classroom walls. They are learning how to research current events, create digital presentations, collaborate on documents, and problem solve through coding."
